this count as Sculpture? Well, 3_D for sure! Shortly
after retirement, and after the original tiles I'd hand-painted in the
main bath began to chip off, I decided to replace them by decorating
and glazing my own tiles. This meant demolishing the old tiles and
supporting sheet rock. I replaced the sheet rock and then began tiling
that area as well as much of the rest of the bathroom. I created a silk-screen to run off the under-glazed blue colors, and hand-painted the grey underglaze in later. Then I painted on a clear over-glaze over each tile. A previous co-worker and a great friend who teaches art at the high school where I previously taught actually fired all of those tiles for me. I brought them to her in groups of about 20 or so at a time and she included them when she fired her student's work. |
